Cold cheeks, towering glaciers, mossy hills, and infectiously compassionate people. These were just some of the highlights of the memory-filled trip to Iceland taken by Jaimie and Maria, Woodland Mod’s Owner and Digital Manager (and tight-knit mother-daughter duo), back in 2015 - long before the idea for Woodland Mod existed. During these travels, the Icelandic people demonstrated a touchingly strong value for community care and pride in appreciating the natural elements of their home.
When the concept for Woodland Mod was born in 2021 with the intent of embodying the influences of Scandinavian and Nordic cultures, it was a no-brainer that the store needed to include a brand that was truly representative of the Icelandic environment and culture experienced on those memorable travels. Then along came Fischersund.

What drew us to Fischersund immediately was the intention behind their incredibly unique and intoxicating scents. This intention surrounds evoking memories through scent and music, inspired by elements of Iceland’s natural environment and produced with sustainability in mind.
We strongly identified with these values as well as related to their origin as a family-run business. Founded in 2017, siblings Jónsi (of acclaimed post-rock band Sigur Rós), Lilja, Ingibjorg, Sigurrós, and their partners Sindri and Kjartan started Fischersund not only as a business but as a creative expression. The father of the siblings, Birgir, handmakes Fischersund’s incense and has played a huge supporting role along with their mother, Guðrún.

Using herbs and oils harvested in Iceland, Fischersund produces perfumes, candles, incense, tea, body oils, and even dog shampoo (inspired by their family dog, Atlas) that each evoke distinct feelings of nostalgia and a deep appreciation for nature. Utilizing Jónsi’s musical talents, Fischersund pairs custom sounds and music with specific scents to create a holistic sensory experience. Their in-person shop is located in Reykjavík, Iceland.

On the shelves of Woodland Mod, you will find a dedication to Fischersund in the form of perfumes, candles, and incense. One of our favorite products is the Solid Perfume, for its beautiful draw-string knit bag packaging and hand-forged tin, its ingenuity as a scent applied by your fingers rather than a classic spray, and of course, the scent itself which is not bound to any one gender and instantly transports you to the brisk air of a far away land. Solid Perfume by Fischersund
Their hand-poured Wood Wick candles, such as Candle No.54, utilize recycled soy wax and translate the same scents of the perfumes into a burnable form. Fresh coat of varnish on a wooden shed, uprooted moss, wet dirt, and vetiver roots. This aroma combined with the calming crackle of the burning wooden wick truly makes for a candle that you will not find anywhere else.
Paired with the rustic and almost volcanic look of the handcrafted tins that hold the scents, Fischersund's final products appear as if they were harvested directly from nature itself, bringing an artistic and deeply emotional element that transcends the usual standards of retail products.

When we reflect on the beginning of our journey as a store, Fischersund has always played a major role in that story. Their kindness as people, undeniable creativity, and one of a kind products have landed them close to our hearts, beyond the bounds of a usual business relationship.
As a small business, we have had the privilege of sharing a more personal connection with the Fischersund family and feel equally proud and thrilled to have had their products on our shelves since Woodland Mod's opening day. Each time that we get to smell their scents in our shop, we are reminded of the special travels of a mother and daughter in Iceland so many years ago, and for that we are thankful.
