Maintain wood by conditioning it with oil as needed. The ash wood body is treated with natural food-safe oil. We recommend reconditioning it twice a year with heavy use. Season the mortar by repeatedly grinding dry rice until powdered, and adding a small amount of water to create a paste. Repeat several times until powder and paste are white and grit-free. Rinse with water to remove any remaining rice.
Hand wash mortar and pestle with warm water and rinse thoroughly. Avoid using soap as it may leach unwanted flavors into the stone.
